Following these guidelines will help speed up recovery and minimize complications after surgery.
Diet
You can eat normally after surgery.
When to Contact Your Doctor
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following:
- Severe pain that does not subside after taking paracetamol
- Significant redness, swelling, or pus discharge from the wound
- Noticeable vision loss
- Excessive bleeding from the wound that does not stop after applying cold compress
- Eye pain accompanied by nausea
- Seeing flashes of light or dark shadows obstructing your vision
Eye Ointment and Wound Care
- Use eye drops and ointment as directed by your doctor.
- If antibiotics are prescribed, take them as instructed.
- Keep the wound clean and dry by gently wiping it with a clean cotton swab twice a day.
Cold and Warm Compress
- Apply a cold compress immediately after surgery and continue for the first 72 hours. Compress for 20 minutes, rest for 20 minutes, and repeat.
- After 72 hours, switch to a warm compress to reduce swelling and bruising.
Activities to Avoid
- Do not rub or touch your eyes.
- Avoid heavy lifting, bending, and straining for the first week.
- Refrain from vigorous exercise or activities for at least 2 weeks.
- Avoid wearing makeup for at least 2 weeks or until the wound heals.
Additional Tips
- If there is slight bleeding from the wound, use a clean gauze pad to apply gentle pressure.
- Do not sneeze or blow your nose forcefully.
- If there is significant bleeding that does not stop, contact your doctor immediately.
