Proper preparation before surgery helps improve surgical success and minimizes risks. At Eye Clinic provides the following preoperative guidelines:

Preoperative Instructions

1. Do not eat or drink (including water) after midnight before the surgery day. If you need to take regular medications, consult your doctor.

2. Diabetic patients requiring insulin injections should consult their diabetes physician regarding the dosage on the morning of surgery.

3. Avoid aspirin (Aspirin or ASA), Coumadin (Warfarin), or NSAIDs such as Voltaren or Brufen for at least 10 days before surgery.

4. If the surgery does not require hospitalization, please arrange for a relative to accompany you home after the procedure.

5. Wear loose, comfortable clothing on the surgery day.

6. Do not wear contact lenses, makeup, nail polish, or jewelry on the day of surgery.

7. If antibiotics are prescribed, follow the doctor’s instructions carefully.

8. Practice lying flat or using a low pillow to prepare for the surgery, as some procedures may require face covering for about an hour.

What to Expect Before and During Surgery

- Upon arrival at the operating room, your blood pressure and pulse will be checked.

- An IV line may be inserted, and you will meet the anesthetist before receiving medication to help you relax.

- Local anesthesia will be administered around the eye to prevent pain during the surgery.

- After the surgery, you will be taken to a recovery room before being discharged.

Postoperative Care

- In some cases, your eye may be covered after the surgery to prevent infection.

- The nursing staff will provide detailed instructions on medications and the next appointment before you leave.
